The Shape of Enrichment, Inc. is dedicated to furthering the exchange of enrichment ideas. An important mechanism for exchanging information is participation in national and international conferences.
The International Conference on Environmental Enrichment (ICEE) is concerned exclusively
with enrichment and animal welfare. Begun in 1993 by Drs. David
Shepherdson and Jill Mellen, this conference is held biannually. By agreement,
consecutive conferences will not be held on the same continent.
The Shape of Enrichment was honored in 1995
to be selected as the official publication for the International Enrichment Conferences.
As its official publication, The Shape of Enrichment and its associated website offer
the most up-to-date information available concerning both past and future International
Conferences on Environmental Enrichment.
The ICEE Conference Committee selects the future conference hosts and provides assistance on an as-needed basis. Currently, the committee members are:

- Karen Worley (The Shape of Enrichment, Inc., USA);
- Margaret Hawkins (Taronga Zoo, Australia), serves to 2007;

- Mat von Lierop (Johannesburg Zoo, South Africa), serves to 2009;
- Rob Young ( PUC University of Minas Gerais, Brazil), serves to 2009;
- Don Moore (WCS, USA), serves to 2011;
- Harald Schwammer (Schoenbrunn Zoo, Austria), serves to 2013.
The 8th ICEE will be hosted by the Schoenbrunn Zoo in Vienna, Austria in August of 2007. See the evolving details.
The 7th ICEE was hosted by the Wildlife Conservation Society in New York City, USA in August of 2005. The Proceedings is available in either hardcopy or digital format. Prepayment is required.
The 6th ICEE was held in Johannesburg, South Africa, in November of 2003 and was hosted by the Johannesburg Zoo. The Proceedings are not yet available. IF YOU WERE A PRESENTER AT THIS CONFERENCE, PLEASE CONTACT VALERIE HARE IMMEDIATELY CONCERNING THE STATUS OF YOUR PRESENTATION IN THE PROCEEDINGS.
The 5th ICEE, was hosted by Taronga Zoo in Sydney, Australia in November, 2001. The Proceedings is now available. Prepayment is required.
The 4th ICEE was hosted by Edinburg Zoo in Edinburgh, Scotland in August, 1999. The Proceedings is now available. Prepayment is required.
The 3rd ICEE was hosted by Sea World of Florida, in Orlando, Florida, USA in August, 1997. The Proceedings has sold out.
The 2nd ICEE was hosted by Copenhagen Zoo in Copenhagen, Denmark, in August, 1995. A limited number of the Proceedings are still available.
The 1st ICEE was hosted by the Metro Washington Park Zoo (now the Oregon Zoo) in Portland, Oregon, USA in July of 1993. The Proceedings is now available.
