Past Travel Grant Winners

* The 2007 Grant for the 6th ICEE *

* Congratulations to Dr. Ajit Pattnaik, the winner of The Shape of Enrichment $1,000 travel grant to the Eighth International Conference on Environmental Enrichment, in August 2007 in Vienna, Austria. Unfortunately, and at the last moment, Ajit was unable to attend the conference. His paper, entitled "Stimulating Conservation Breeding in Captivity through Enrichment of Enclosure and Feed in Indian Pangolin (Manis crassicaudata) in Nandankanan Zoological Park" was read to the conference.

* The 2003 Grant for the 6th ICEE *

* Congratulations to Wanda McCormick, the winner of The Shape of Enrichment $1,000 travel grant to the Sixth International Conference on Environmental Enrichment, in October 2003 in Johannesburg, South Africa. Wanda's paper, entitled "How Enriching Is Training?" presents the only known study to date that attempts to quantify the animal welfare benefits derived directly from participating in animal training sessions. This study examines the behavioral diversity of two elephants at the Paignton Zoo after baseline, enrichment only, training only, and enrichment and training sessions.

* The 2001 Grant for the 5th ICEE *

* Congratulations to Sheila Wojciechowski, a keeper in the Tropic World exhibit at the Brookfield Zoo, who was the winner of The Shape of Enrichment $1,000 travel grant to the Fifth International Conference on Environmental Enrichment, in November 2001 in Sydney Australia. Sheila's paper, "Is Enrichment Still Good the Next Day? Overcoming the Challenges of Prividing Daily Enrichment to Multiple Animal Groups in a Colony-Type Situation" assesed the effectiveness of 19 items being given to 8 groups of Goeldi's monkeys (Callimico goeldii) and evaluated if keeper time was being used optimally to provide the greatest amount of enrichment for the animals.

* The 1999 Grant for the 4th ICEE *

* Congratulations to Mindy Wozniak of the Brookfield Zoo, who was the winner of The Shape of Enrichment $1,000 travel grant to the Fourth International Conference on Environmental Enrichment. Mindy presented her paper, entitled "The Effect of Enrichment Devices on Stereotypic Behavior in Okapi (Okapia johnstoni)" in August, 1999, in Edinburgh, Scotland.
