Enrichment Workshops

In 2000, Valerie Hare was invited to present an Enrichment Minicourse at the Brazilian Zoological Association annual meeting. Since then, The Shape of Enrichment, Inc. has conducted numerous Enrichment Workshops in many countries including: Brazil, Chile, Canada, Indonesia, Ireland, Philippines, South Africa, Uganda, United Kingdom, and United States of America.

Our Enrichment Workshops are designed to enable attendees to successfully create and implement enrichment plans at their institution. This is accomplished through a mix of practical and concept lectures and hands-on activities.

Each workshop is tailored to the host institution's needs. Prior to the workshop, one of our instructors will coordinate with the host representative to determine the Curriculum, desired Practicals, duration of workshop, etc.

Workshop instructors donate their time to workshops held in developing countries. Others are asked to make a tax-deductible donation. Host institutions are expected to cover all other expenses associated with the workshop. The Host Information page provides additional details for prospective workshop hosts in an FAQ format.

Upcoming workshops are listed on the “New!” page and the Conferences Calendar.

For more information about The Shape of Enrichment Workshops, contact the Workshop Coordinator, Valerie Hare.

Friends were made, brains were put to the test, and most importantly everybody left with a great enthusiasm to go back to their own collections and put these procedures into practice.

It is the kind of workshop that can provide new ideas and new ways of looking at things for anyone, no matter what their experience, from trainee keepers all the way up to managers.”

-- Mark Kingston-Jones, Education and Enrichment Officer, Howletts and Port Lympne Wild Animal Parks
